On to Thunder Bay

We fuelled and left our pot holed Husky accommodation to pass a clean, paved, Wal-Mart a mile down the road. Who knew? We have a U.S. Wal-Mart Map book but nothing for Canada. We’re driving past hilly, rocky, forested land with a lake every time you look. It must be a real problem because Moose on the loose signs are frequent. We pulled out at an Esso station for lunch and had about 45 minutes of rain before Thunder Bay. we seem to be a day behind a storm going through Toronto at present. This town was created when Port Arthur and Fort William combined in 1970, forming Canada’s newest city and 3rd largest Port, a part of the St. Lawrence Seaway. We’re O/N at Wal-Mart and it’s the first time we’ve seen a rundown Wal-Mart. There is rust coming off the roof and grass growing through the concrete in front of the store. It is company policy that Rvers are welcome to park O/N so that works for us as they are always right on the main highway. There is a historic park here, Fort William, a re-enactment of a fur trade rendezvous. Chippewa Park is 270 acres on the shore of Lake Superior and features a historic Carousel of painted horses first built in 1908. There is also a Soroptimist International Friendship Garden given to the city and Canada to celebrate their Centennial and multicultural heritage. 18 ethnic groups created these. We were talking to 6 other couples as our neirghbours made music with their fiddle and guitar. Nice group and lots of tips.
