We left Winnipeg and Manitoba’s poor roads behind, heading East on Hwy 1. We’ve left the flat plains and entered Ontario at 11:00, can you see the new blacktop right after the sign? It’s now all rock, hills and water. We’re skirting Kenora, over the top of Lake of the Woods. The local Ojibway Indians called it Lake of the Islands but the early French traders misinterpreted it to Wood. Rather inappropriate as the water surrounds more than 14,500 islands. We’ve driven under two big black clouds and the rain poured down for 4 minutes, then beautiful sun again. We pulled into the Husky at Dryden. Bit of an early stop but it doesn’t look like much down the road until Thunder Bay which would be too far. This little town has a pulp and paper mill so we feel right at home. It makes white paper for worldwide distribution. I went for a walk and loved these pretty women in someone's front garden. Here's our Husky overnight spot. We're never gone through worse potholes in our life. We're out back.
