Next is Sault Ste. Marie

On my walk this morning, I went through the Winnie the Pooh Park. Its fun and they have a festival every Aug. We passed Wawa, which means wild goose in Ojibway, named because geese rested on this lake on their migration. They have a huge goose on top of their info center. We’re still going around Lake Superior. If it were a clock, we started at 10 o’clock Sun morning and will pull into Sault Ste. Marie today at 2p.m.( at 3 o’clock). Ontario means beautiful lake and contains hundreds of thousands of lakes and rivers. It is the 4th largest province, larger than many nations, going from the frigid Hudson’s Bay up north to Lake Erie in the south. We see lots of Lk Superior with sandy beaches and cottages on the shore. We parked at Home Depot next to Wal-Mart, as they are under construction. We went down to the Locks and watched 2 boats going through. It was first built in 1895, 253’ long, to avoid rapids. Today it is used for pleasure and tour boats only, in the summer months. It was cool to see the water recede and let the boats exit 21’ lower than it started, going into St. Mary’s River and Lake Huron. It is part of the Great Lakes- St Lawrence Seaway, a 2340 mile ( 2768 Km) water highway from the Atlantic Ocean to the west side of Lake Superior. This was a joint venture between the US and Canada finished in 1959 with the headwaters of the Great Lakes in Duluth, Minn.
