Slept with 31 Truckers last night, now off to Kapuskasing

Yup, we stayed at the Petro Truck Stop in North Bay and when we got up this morning there were 31 rigs in the lot. We're going up Hwy 11 as the truckers say it is flatter and straighter than going all the way to Sudbury, S. Ste Marie, around Georgian Bay and Lake Superior. We came that way and enjoyed it, so this is different. We're driving along a ribbon of road threaded through birch, evergreens, rocks and lakes. It's cottage country and very pretty. We drove through Temagami, where Archibald Belaney, know as Grey Owl, lived for 20 years as a Native, becoming a pioneer conservationalist. Next was Latchford, billed as 'the best little town by a dam site', and sure enough, as you pull into town, there's the dam on the river. In Earlton, 6 people had clothes stuffed to look like people doing farm or household chores on their front lawns. Timmons has one of the world's richest silver-zinc mines in the world and is home to the Shania Twain Center, their most famous native. We stopped at the Husky for lunch, so easy to get off and on the highway towing the car, lots of room. We passed the 49th Parallel, which surprised me because when you live on it, you forget how far Toronto dips way down into where the states are at home. Cochrane is home to a Bear Refuge and you can even swim with Polar Bears. In small print, they say there is a glass separating you. More farms today, some with original timber, stone foundations and red roofs. We pulled into Kapuskasing at 2:45, fueled up at the flying J and are here for the night. They want $5 for internet, mine is courtesy of the new Super 8 Motel next door.
