Kenora Today

As we left Thunder Bay, we left the Highway of Courage, marked to honour Terry Fox' run. This town has the largest Finn community outside of Finland. We left Lake Superior behind, the largest body of fresh water in the world, 82,000 sq. km; it would cover North and South America with 1 foot of water. Across of bay is the Sleeping Giant Prov Park with imposing cliffs and rocky landscapes. 20 minutes outside of town is Kakabeka Falls, Niagara of the north, 40 meters cascading over some of the oldest rock and fossils in the world? We veered NW on #17 while #11 ran along the bottom and you could go into Minnesota before going up into Manitoba. We passed Dryden, fuel 92.9, a pulp and paper mill town with a giant moose in front of their info center. We crossed over the top of Lake of the Woods into the Husky Cardlock on 17A outside of Kenora. This town has 21 historic murals downtown and Husky the Musky, a 35’ statue depicting record breaking catches here.
