Driving around the area, you pass through Mesa, Gilbert, Tempe, Scottsdale, all surrounding Phoenix, each area leading to the next and you don't even realize you've been in a different town. Phoenix is one seriously big town, it takes about 45 minutes to drive through. We saw their transit system with 4 cars together, finished in 2008. The transit guard got a kick out of me taking a picture, so was clowning for me across the street. We passed the University of Southern Arizona carved right into the arid hills with cactus in front and 100's of bikes in the parking lot. Here's a neat mural of Scottsdale, depicting its history.
