St. Paul's Nursing School

Here's a picture of our nursing school entrance taken at our reunion in 2002. Today Penny and I went into St. Paul's Hospital for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Nursing School in 1907. We had 11 women from our class there and about 550 attended in total. It was very well done. The archivist brought many, many photos depicting the activities right from the beginning of the hospital, early nuns and nursing classes. We went from 12 hour days to 40 hour weeks with a day and a half off per week. What progress. We laughed about leaping to our feet whenever a doctor entered the room, 'mystery balls' - a dinner entree we all gagged on and which we never did figure out and nine o'clocks. We also remembered our wage, free room and board for the first 6 months, $6/month when we got our caps, $8/mon for 2nd year and the grand sum of $10/mon for third year. We just managed to get over to Dunker's Donuts for ice cream and coffee which we poured on top - our treat. We're now planning a reunion for our 45th in September.
