1001 Steps Again

I took Dianne and Beverley here today, their first time. A very beautiful, peaceful pace.
-
At the top you see stones showing the number of times people are climbing up and down for their exercise.

This large heron was far away but then flew over us with a loud cry.
Its very clear right over to Boundary Bay.
We felt obliged to wave as many on the train were waving to us.
The tower at the airport was very clear.

Garlic Festival at Sharing Farms

The Sharing Farm is in Richmond at Terra Nova Park. They grow fruits and vegetables year round and donate everything to the Richmond Food Bank, Community Meals and other neighbours. Jan and I went to discover all things garlic.
They had a ton of activities for kids and many vegetable products for sale. This festival is their major fundraiser.
Chefs from famous hotels provided their specialties and the garlic toast with Burrata cheese topped with sauteed onions and bacon was one of our favourites. The farm tour and events were very interesting with fields of garlic growing..
We topped it off with ice cream, Jan, the chicken, had blackberry which was delicious and I had garlic, had to try it. It looked like vanilla but certainly had lots of garlic with green garlic chives in it also. Don't know if it was the hard necked or soft necked garlic, soft being milder. Still tasted it 3 hours later. Didn't kiss Ron good night.

Kathy and Bill

We don't see much of Kathy and Bill since they bought an ocean view condo in Victoria a few years ago. They've just been here for a week and I didn't take a picture.
Here we are about five years back when they stayed here but we all look even better today.

1001 Steps and the Beach

When we were at the beach for SeaFest, we saw a booth manned by Friends of Semiahmoo Bay Society, which offers free guided beach walks. I went to the one at 1001steps in Ocean Park Monday as I have lived here 70 years and have never gone down the 1001 steps. Luckily it is only 236 steps but there were about 7 people going up and down 10 times for their exercise.
I learned so many things, I was astounded.
The first lesson was, NEVER roll rocks over. The marine life will rush away from where you are lifting it and you'll crush them.
LIFT ROCKS straight up with 2 hands and put them back gently exactly where they were. Creatures imprint themselves on their  location and always return there.
Our guide and I ended up in a letter to the Editor with our picture in the Peach Arch News.
The 'sea stars' ( not starfish we called them as they are not fish) were decimated about 5 years ago by a fungus in a large area around here, but they are coming back. So nice to see. The green is sea lettuce and we saw Japanese eel grass (which we've always called seaweed) thinner and darker than our very green eel-grass.

Here you see both colours of the eel-grass and the round brownish bunches are sea cauliflower.
This actually a prehistoric creature called something like Chiton.
Two trains came by and the eagles soared overhead. Beautiful day.
