Palm Desert Greek Festival

Donna and I went for an interesting afternoon.

The Palm Desert Greek Festival
is a community celebration of Greek culture – from guided Church tours to Byzantine icons; live Greek music and traditional folk dancing; souvenirs, ethnic groceries, and religious items. But, the heart of our festival is the wonderful homemade Greek food and pastries created from generational, family recipes. OPA! The dedicated members of St. George prepare an assortment of authentic and traditional Greek style foods to amaze the taste buds and make you fall in love with Greece.
The Priest explained what Greek Orthodox really means and the Byzantine styled church was beautiful.
They have the same saints and liturgy but split away from Rome (the Roman Catholic Church) about 1054 when the Catholics decreed that the Pope and cardinals were infallible.
The window has a 6 winged angel in stained glass and the icons are all made in the Byzantine fashion of mosaic pieces then painted so they continuously glitter. All churches are built with a domed top, others have a steeple to draw your eyes upward, like to heaven.

Live Greek music was performed by “The Greeks” a traditional Greek Bouzouki Band and  traditional and folk dances were ongoing encouraging everyone to  “Be Greek for a Day!
A delightful and informative time.
