A Busy Day

We went up to Sechelt for the kids final swimming day after 2 weeks of lessons. I see such a difference in their swimming. Hana was swimming the 25m lengths with her class and Lexi finally puts her head in the water and swims forward.
Hana is into backgammon now.

Down to Gibsons

We finished up our little beach holiday with a quick breakfast before Ch and B headed for the ferry. Liz and I took a long walk down the beach in the other direction. After our last beachfront lunch, Ron and I headed down to Gibsons to S and J's.
Friends came for BBQ and we had lots of laughs together.

Up to Smuggler's Cove and Madeira Park

We drove into Smuggler's Cove today where Chinese immigrants were once hidden enroute to being smuggled into the U.S., and rum was smuggled during Prohibition. There is a beautiful cove in a marine park and then we went to Madiera Park a small village in this area known as the Venice of the North. We drove through the Painted Resort a new development where a deer was nibbling on the new landscaping. We enjoyed dinner on the beach before the sunset.

A Beach Day

We went for a walk along the beach, past Gordon Campbell's house to Cooper's Green, a fabulous picnic site with community hall and one of the great dive sites of the world. We saw jellyfish and starfish and I found some pretty beach glass.
There were very interesting cottages decorated with beach finds, among the brand new beauties.
The crib board came out and we had lots of fun with cards and games. I just loved eating our meals on the beachfront.

Off to Halfmoon Bay

We met Chuck and Barb at the ferry in Horseshoe Bay. We had the usual visit in the parking lot in beautiful sunshine and then drove up to Liz' where we sat on the porch overlooking the ocean. Halfmoon Bay has a Heritage General Store, built in 1938 with the original wood floors. There's a government wharf and Redroofs Road was named for a group of red roofed cottages in the early 20th century. This area has a sweeping curve of shoreline backed by towering ceders, scattered sandy beaches and rugged cliffs. The trails wind through a gently sloped forested walkway.

We're with the grandkids today as mom and dad are off on a 4 day holiday. Two enjoyed the pool including squirt guns, an age old toy. We had a great time playing Uno outside, a good game for ages 7 - 16 and above.

Off to the U.S.A.

When we crossed the border, we got a kick out of the fake fir bough fence outside the duty free store.
We popped down to Bellingham to Costso for gas at $2.81.9/gal and went to Billy Hale's for lunch. This is a delightful old memorabilia place, complete with a electric train running around above your head. It even had a Canadian Pacific Engine.
We left and saw J and CJ's car in the parking lot, so went back in and visited with them. We stopped at Chuck and Barb's on the way home and joined them and 3 guests for a marguaritas, so it turned out to be another great day.
