On the Road Again - to Santa Nella

We left Catalina on a sunny 68 degree day. We passed the Pet Cemetery as we went down Dillon. It has been so windy lately that you could hardly see the pass between the mountains on I 10 or all the whirling windmills for the sand in the air. We went up 395 to Kramer's Junction where we stopped for a coffee and stretch. We left cacti behind and drove through the rocky mountain area of Tehatchapi. We fueled in Bakersfield at $227.9 and headed across #46 through the Kern Valley. It is a delightful agricultural area. The fall rye was being plowed under, new rose bushes planted and the first crop of hay was already cut - imagine, on April 2. Some gusty winds for the last hour on I 5 until we pulled into Santa Nella and boondocked at McDonald's.

Poor Doves

We've had 2 doves building a nest on the ladder next door. The male is bringing a large leaf here and the female stays there building the nest. They work so hard and Dave has torn it down 5 times, because he's moving out Thursday. Today he finally had to remove the ladder.
I enjoyed 'noodling' with the gang down at the bottom pool today. It's our visit time and you learn a million things. Joni, Claudette, Jackie, Sue and I were joined by about 20 others.
One of our last beautiful sunsets as we head for home tomorrow.

Last Visit at Desert Crest

We met the gang over at Don and Lila's for our last get together until the fall. We've had lots of fun with these folks.

Lois is blogging

We got together in the lower clubhouse and I taught Lois how to blog. She picked it up very well once we figured our how to find her pictures. Here she is with Havoc. Everyone I teach has to use my format because that's the only I know. When they get adventurous, they can fool around and change it.

Last Hamburger

Well, our winter in the sun is winding down. We all went up for the last sirloin burger tonight. Mel our cook wears this fantastic 'hamburger' hat with about 12 layers of tomato, lettuce, onion, pickle, mustard, mayo etc, etc., on a sesame seed bun.
Ron and I played Jokers in the lounge with 4 others. That was fun.

A Nursing Buddy

Busy day with College of the Desert Swap Meet, pool tournament, and then
we went with Joan and Barry to visit Frank and Denise, a woman that went through nurses training with me in St. Paul's, Vancouver in the 60's. We had a great visit and had to take a picture of their 1929 Model A Shay kit car that Frank built. Talk about an unusual 'tow car'.

Colorful Cacti

This is the season of spring blooms. The
catus plants look dull green or dead brown during the winter and now it's a pretty surprise with beautiful flowers everywhere and a joy to see.
