This Village is raising their Children

When I visit the kid's town, there is always something going on.
While we went to the Science Fair at school, I once again admired the Principal's office. He has his desk outside the offices with photos of all the schools activities, a comfortable loveseat and there are always food snacks on the table for anyone hungry.
The local art gallery changes regularly, always displaying a new artist. The streetlights are decorated with local art and I love the birdhouses on street posts.
Kids always used to go to the bakery and ask for a free cookie. Now fruit is out in the open for kids to help themselves. Great idea.
St. Bart's has 'Messy Church' once a month. This is to introduce non church goers to their parish. I went with the kids once and Grandma Margaret was also there -  about 4 stations of arts and crafts are setup for an hour, then there is a 3 minute introduction before a free social dinner. It was fun and hopefully attracted some new people.

Monthy Visit

Suzanne picked me up at home as she didn't want me doing my 3+ hour trip with a fresh eye surgery. We picked up Trey at the gym and he had to do his homework, a science project while waiting for the 9:30 ferry. Very tiring for a school night.

The next day it was Lexi's turn doing an 'electric potato clock' and she also tried a yam clock. I must say the adults had a workout following instructions on copper and galvanized nails and wires to produce electricity which we couldn't get to work.
Saturday was Hana's year end dance performance and I loved the whole show. Very impressive.
The local barber attends every performance in his fairy outfit with his fairy wand and directs traffic, even though his daughters have now grown past this.

2nd Surgery

I had the ptergium removed from my left eye April 19, which has healed very well and the right was done today. Certainly slows you down, can't see worth a hoot.
I spent some time down at the beach in sunshine earlier thus week. The first thing I see is a family of 5 walking on the train tracks. I guess no one can read and don't know a jogger was killed last year.
                  Always pretty flowers.

A Haney Day

We grew up in Haney, now called Maple Ridge and spent some time there today.
We visited mom and dad's grave-site at the local cemetery. Hard to believe they've been gone for 16 years now.

We also saw Thomas and Anne Haney's, original pioneers. The trees must be original and are mammoth is size compared to our car behind.

The next stop was our old house which Dad had built in 1945, where we all grew up, surrounded by 22 acres with 24 greenhouses and holly trees. We had a large barn with 2 Clydesdale houses and loved haying in the summer.
The owners attached the garage to the house, enlarged the kitchen out to a large deck and the original hardwood floors are still there. The basement is totally finished, minus the cold storage under the front stairs and has a bathroom and sauna added.
The living room looks the same.
The surprise was in the attic off the girls bedroom. The people said 'Are you Margaret?'
When mom and dad moved over to the river in 1961, someone had printed this on the insulation.

The house is well loved and has been very much enjoyed.

Wonderful Mother's Day

Had the family here, but missed Chris, who was driving to an emergency job in Ft. Nelson.

I received flowers and beautiful cards and we enjoyed the sunshine.
Last group standing was the Ingrams and we enjoyed a hot tub together.

Trey's First Gymnastic's Competition

We went to the Olympic Richmond Oval in Richmond today. It was fun for us to see as we were down south when the Winter Olympics were in Vancouver.
The complex is large with a hockey game at one end, large gym space in the middle and the Delta Invitational 'Best of the West', on the other end.

You can barely see Trey twirling on the high bar, with the Olympic rings, climbing wall and score board behind.
Trey is limbering up with his right leg extended up to his ear beside his coach before his floor routine.
This was after his 3someraults in a row. We were very impresses with his progress.
