I thought the Russians did a fantastic job. The venue and ceremonies showcasing the history, culture and people were outstanding.
Today, even the 5th ring opened.
The Bolshoi Dance company was a highlight.
Their first circus school opened in 1880.
Amazing performance by Canada with a population of 34 million, California has 38. Sad that it is over.

Modernism Week
Joni and I went thrift store shopping today. It is wonderful to see the expensive clothing and items the Palm Springs women recycle. It is the thrill of the hunt for us - you never know what you'll find.
They were also celebrating HPEnergy, which is Hot Purple Energy as in modern ways to conserve energy.
There are several street food trucks around.
This year they honoured Hugh Kaptur who did many buildings here. There is an app for a tour of the 12 leading architects and 80+ buildings of these mid-century landmarks and also tours you can take.
I think it would be fascinating to drive by these 60's places and pop into several of the very Modern stores.
Perhaps I will one day.
One plus for me was the exhibit downtown for Modernism week. This is the 9th annual event and very interesting. The city of Palm Springs was a hotbed of Iconic Mid-Century Modern Architecture and they celebrate their architects and history

The President in Palm Springs
I never thought I'd see Airforce 1, but Obama is here to meet with Jordan's President so we went down to the Airport today and saw his plane parked on the tarmac. Very pretty blue colour with the American flag high up on the tail.

Curling and Olympics
We are practically glued to the TV, really enjoying the Canadian Tournament of Hearts Curling.
And now the Olympics have started. Thought the opening ceremonies with all their history and culture were amazing.
I thought the costumes worn by the Russian women walking the countries into the stadium were interesting.
And we really get a kick out of the Norwegians with their wild pants, knickers this time.

Brunch at Two Springs
We went for their weekly Brunch today and had to battle hundreds of cyclists on the way.
The Tour de Palm Springs is in it's 16th year and has raised about 3 million dollars for 125 local charities. There were nearly 10,000 riders from 42 countries. There were many different rides from 1 to 100 miles using 200 miles of roads through 9 desert cities.
Two Springs has many fond memories for quite a few of our friends.
The brunch was delicious, they even made omelets for you.

Daily Activities
There's something different every day as well as the billiards, swimming, bocci, crib and mini golf tournaments.
I met Ida in the swimming pool today to help her become more comfortable in the water. We grew up at Crescent Beach so have been swimming all my life. When we decided Ida just wanted to have fun in the pool I said great! Stick this pink noodle under your arms and float around. We spent nearly 2 hours floating around chatting with everyone and she loved it.
Part of the info you get in the pool is where to eat.
We went down to the Windmill Market on Indian Ave., a tiny store and deli by their description and Wed the special was stroganoff with garlic toast. It was delicious for $5.49 and it was so pleasant eating in their back garden. They had vines covering the fences, one a deep blue/purple morning glory. this is on the busiest corner and you wouldn't guess in their secluded garden.
We went to the Sidewinder with Glen and Leah when they came to pick up Sherry, here for 10 days.

Happy Hour
We had a gang over today, lots of fun with friends from RVing, bocci, pool and our park.
Jo brought us some huge oranges from her tree in Norwok in the LA basin. They were so juicy that you had to stand over the sink to eat them.
Here they are beside a red delicious apple. Willy makes a Screwdriver with just one orange and a splash of Vodka.
We have several Roadrunners living in the Park.
