Heading Home.

It was a windy day with rain, starting to look like fall, and then it cleared right up to sunny afternoon..
I got off the West Van Blue bus and walked down to the underground train for my next step and music filled the area. It was wonderful. this delightful accordion player was loving his gift to us, it just made you smile from ear to ear.

Fun Wine Labels

When we went to get wine for our Sat. night party, Lexi and I were having fun reading labels.
                               Another good one.
                                                          WINE O'CLOCK

And this explains it all. Warning. The coffee's worn off and the wine hasn't kicked in yet.
           Seems fitting, doesn't it?

Beach Time

Down to Soames Beach today where we met the cousins and neighbours.
Ollie is the new dog on the block, a cute little cockapoo.
The stump was the most fun, other than the large disgusting brown jellyfish they found.
I could not believe Caroline going for a swim. More courage than I have.
It started raining as we climbed up the hill so we went home to Roasted Tomato Soup with cabbage rolls and garlic bread and the sun came back out for a hot tub later.

Party time in the back yard.

                  First we cooked.
Then our guests arrived with their delicious food. We had pulled pork and bamboo sprout lettuce wraps, plank salmon, steak, broccoli and wild rice, Greek salad, and apple pie, chocolate cake and cheesecake for dessert. Yummy. Wonderful way to visit. 9 adults and 9 kids.
I just love S and J's friends. They are so interesting.

Saturday Off

Lots of kids activities. Hana played volleyball.
                           Trey did soccer.
                            And so did Lexi.
Trey's started gymnastics and loves it. He's very good at handstands.

Busy Family Time.

With the kids in school today, I visited with the next door neighbours while S and J worked.
George was dismayed to find one of his pumpkins smashed on the ground and all the seeds eaten. He figured it must have been a bear because the deer couldn't have lifted it up to throw to the ground 5' away.
Irene and I went thrift sale shopping. Gibsons has the neatest ReCyle Centre where you can buy everything from household to furniture for peanuts, keeping much out of the landfill.
The kids made 7 minute popsicles in their new Zoku machine. Quite amazing.

Grandchildren Time.

We had a great visit and dinner at Chris and Julie's Tue and now it's off to see the others.
I start with a 4 vehicle journey - car, bus, skytrain, walking, Blue bus, ferry and car pickup.
I am always amazed by the construction and growth.
I catch the West Vancouver Blue Bus outside of the Hudson's Bay store in downtown Vancouver. Imagine, a Canadian icon since 1670.
I love my 'ocean voyage' and the smell of the salt air.

Cleaning the Condo

Our tenants have moved out and we cleaned for the last 5 days, after their cleaning.
It has 110' of deck surrounding the apt on the top floor, always a fresh breeze off the ocean and it feels like you're living in a tree fort.
We're still working on it and have rented it to a couple 88 and 89, moving out from Ontario.

Golfing at Meridian

Had fun golfing  with Jan. This pig is on the counter and you have to squeeze it for service

and this fellow, celebrating his stag with friends was just coming on the course.

Sinclair Centre

We had to zip downtown to help a relative with a Passport issue, so we went to the Sinclair Center, an old Vancouver landmark at 757 West Hastings Street .

The centre is comprised of four buildings that were restored by Henriquez Partners Architects and joined together by a glass atrium roof in 1986, at a cost of $38 million. These actually take up the whole block.

The buildings are the Federal Building, 1937, located at the corner of Granville and Cordova, the Post Office, 1900 and the Winch Building, built by a man who worked on a railroad gang, then was a cowboy before making his fortune in salmon canning and real estate, and Customs Examining Warehouse, 1913.

The Post Office Building is the oldest of the four and is described as having an Edwardian Baroque style, combining English and French architectural influences. Construction began in 1905 and it was completed by 1910. It is easily identifiable by the 43m (141 ft) clock tower. The historic atrium clock was built in 1909 by John Smith & Sons and is the largest clock movement in Western Canada. The four, 12-foot diameter clocks were restored in 1986.
The buildings are simply magnificent. The elevators doors look like solid gold with                beautiful carvings.

The old tile floors are still here.

Birk's Clock is on the opposite corner.

Stanley Park

Ron and I had to come into town and did our yearly tour of the park.
                                                       Lost Lagoon is always serene.
Here we are at Prospect Point as usual.

3 Cruise ships are in port with the grass roof of the Convention Center at right.

                                                     Good old Lion`s Gate bridge.

King's Banquet

I've been trying to get together with my friend Joni since we got home in March. We met in Boarding School at St. Ann's Academy in New Westminster in Gr. 7. We are both so busy the only way we could accomplish this, is that I now work with her and many others at the free meal provided at Star of the Sea Catholic Church in White Rock.
These women start at 11 a.m. setting up tables, chairs etc., and preparing the meal.
Hair nets are mandatory of course. No glamor here. I cried and sniveled so much when cutting onions, they sent me over to the lettuce detail.
Cobb's bakery brings bread. This is a full meal with dessert served at 4 pm every Tuesday. It's fun working with such a wide range of women.
