Get Together with the Boys

we ran into Al Emmerson, an old school buddy of Ron's and earned that the boys have coffee every morning at 8:30 at the A and W so Ron joined them several times.
We learned that several play pool at the Legion every day so we went over. Ron and I were soundly trumped so we changed to Scotch Doubles and then won 3 in a row. We decided to quit while we were ahead. One of the guys is ranked 250 in the world.
Another old friend, Al.

Off to Terrace

Driving to Terrace today, we saw 1 small bear run across the road. The town is nicely kept with beautiful flowering baskets and several decorated bears around.
We had a nice visit with Gabby and enjoyed her lovely sense of humour and smile

Frikadellen and more good German Food

We had morning coffee on Sylvia and Stan's patio with all the crowd.
Dinner was Frikadellen, a German type of hamburger patties and believe me - delicious.
We're being spoiled by Gisela. We are parked in her apt parking lot and she comes down for morning coffee and often invites us up for dinner. We've loved spinach with fried eggs, goulash with potato dumplings, chicken soup and black bread and cold cuts and cheeses.
The weather has basically been good, but it seems to change every hour. We're either running for cover or sweating when the sun reappears.

Arrive in Kitimat

We passed Morricetown where the First Nations people still gaff salmon in the river. We're driving along the "River of Tears", a notorious length of highway where many women have been abducted over the years.

We stopped in New Hazelton and visited the Xsan Cultural Village and Museum housed in 7 Longhouses along the river. Very well done and interesting.

Our next adventure was a B Train (semitrailer) flying down the road towards us and bang came the rock. It was so big it scared us.
We arrived safely in Kitimat and were driving out to Hospital  Beach and Alcan, when ' bang' another rock, in the car this time.

On to Smithers

We stopped in Prince George for fuel at the Pilot/Frying J where the pump seized and we had to switch to another and then go back to the first one and put in $5 free diesel to clear the screen. Lots of activity to figure that out and our Visa phoned asking if we were at a gas station as someone had just reauthorized 2 separate $400 payments. Got all sorted out and away we went.
We enjoyed driving this route, past many farms and lots of lumber activity.
We lunched in Vanderhoof and stayed at the old Zellers parking lot O/N in Smithers.

Off to Kitimat

The last time we went up was in 2006 with our truck and Alpenlite, can't even believe it was that long ago.
Can't wait to see everyone.
We cruised past Hope and up the Fraser Canyon, arriving in Quesnel to stay in the WalMart parking lot.
Celebrated my birthday at Denny's.

Malcolm's Salmon Feast

We had a great neighbourhood dinner Sunday and after a rainy start, the sun came out right on time.
The road has become our living room and we move with the sun as the evening goes on.
Someone put up a sign  -  road closed due to fun.

Beautiful Clematis

As we drive along 172 St., there is a fantastic display with a clemantis growing up the telephone pole and along the wires in front of the Glade's garden.

It goes right out and over the road.

A Visit from Chris

Chris has quit his job is the fabrication shop he's done for 17 years and gone back out into the field. He just finished a 3 week job in Kemano where they are building penstocks for power for Kitimat. 12 hour shifts for 21 days had him lose 8 lbs and bears in the campsite made them very careful.

YMCA Intro to Camp.

We went to Camp for a family day to try out everything. A buffet lunch was provided with a lovely view to the ocean.
There were all kinds of activities but the kayaking, low ropes and high ropes were the favourites.
These were about 60' feet up on the air. Lexi has very good balance and loved it.
Teepee time for storytelling at camp.

A Visit to the Aquarium

3 of us played in a playground right on the ocean.
A beautiful spot with many young families right in downtown.
We spent 3 hours at the Aquarium and could have spent the day. They are having a 'jellyfish explosion',

with hundreds featured. The kids loved the live lab where you could touch different animals.
Lexi examining a starfish.
Trey holding a sea urchin.
