Don and Lila and Willy and Jo cruised over today on their golf carts for a visit. They drive these down Dillon Rd on the edge of the road and over to our park. Today they were bundled up to avoid a wind.
We really enjoyed our visit with them.
Friday Lila and I did our yearly patio sale run where I'm privileged to drive Don's golf cart throughout their park Desert Crest. I got a plastic picnic table cloth, Weight watcher Cook Book, beach towel and other odds and ends for $1.75. Here's Willy waiting for Jo when we met at one of the sales.

Wind in the Desert
Let me tell you what happens when the wind blows. When storms blow into LA and the west coast right up to Canada, we get some too. Here's what Judy has to clean out of the swimming pool after this happens.
I thought the top step was totally fascinating. We are at 78 degrees and heading up to 83 for the weekend so I'm OK with this.

RV Casuals Fahion Show
We had the yearly fashion show here today. We had 4 gals that had not done this before so we had to hustle them in the kitchen where 8 of us were changing at the same time. They have great clothes and it was really fun.

Fabulous Follies and the Plaza Theater
Our friend Jan arrived from home and joined Sharon and I going to the Palm Springs Follies, now in their 22nd year. It is held in the Plaza Theater opened Dec.12 1936 with star Robert Taylor and reportedly Greto Garbo in attendance.
In 1991, when the historic building had fallen into near complete disuse, the Palm Springs city fathers asked retired television producer Riff Markowitz to come up with an idea for its utilization. He conceived and created a classic Follies and then added one notable exception, **** the cast must have actually lived through the era which they were going to portray, hence the dancers are 54 - 83. The only reason the 54 year old was allowed to join, was that he can do lifts for the 1st time in their show.
And thus was born the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies, now in its second decade and still playing to packed houses. The Plaza Theatre wasn't dead, the grand ol' lady was merely dormant, awaiting her new life.
They advertise the Follies with a cast 1000 years old and collectively they are.
To make space, they put the mechanical equipment and air conditioners on the roof to create dressing rooms. They installed a pulley system to lift the 8' head dresses up from the basement ( the stairs are way too narrow) then lower them onto the dancers heads.
The inside of the theater looks just like it would have many years ago and has old movies playing on the big screen while you wait for the show to begin.

The costumes are breath taking. In the 2nd section, all the female dancers came out in full nude body suits with strategically designed beading to match the decorative head dresses and told their dancing history and ages, 54 - 83. We loved it.

Our Day in Palm Springs
Our friend Jan arrived from home today and we swam and hot tubbed after dinner under a near perfect full moon.
We went downtown Palm Springs with Sharon before we went to the Follies Saturday. This tourist city is such fun to wander around. The big new attraction this year is the large 26' tall Marilyn Monroe statue erected last summer in a newly created small park right downtown. It is on loan from Chicago and so popular, I think the Palm Springs people are trying to raise money to buy it and keep it permanently.
Here's Jan and I with Lucy Ricardo sitting quietly on her bench.
Sonny Bono was happy to see Jan and Sharon.

A Reunion
We drove over to Colton today and loved the fresh snow very low on all the different mountains on the way. It was dull here but sunny later on.
We had happy hour with Wendy and Ian who lived at Pacific Border near us for 6 years. Also Joy and Roman who is her cousin. Had a great visit.

Prime Rib on thr Ronco
Had fun as usual playing pool today. There are 3 women now so that's nice.
We think of Barry and Joan every time we use the Ronco ( electric rotisserie). Stater had prime rib for $3.49, hamburger was $2.99 so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to choose which meat we like best.
We had Mike and Linda over for dinner as they're heading back to Oregon tomorrow.
And Sharon and Andy also. The boys played crib as Sharon and I did dishes.

La Quinta Art Show
Sharon and I went down to Old Town La Quinta for this yearly event. I'd never been to this quaint area. It was jam packed with every kind of artist you could imagine.
There was a great band. It was so nice strolling through all the beautiful, creative work with the sun and palm trees around you.
We tasted some of the unique olive oils in the La Quinta Olive Oil Store.
We celebrated Ron's birthday going out for dinner with friends.
Even the paintings on the local buildings are nice.

We've been having a great time with old friends and lots of things going on.
We play mini golf on Thursdays. Ron and his partner had to do 3 playoff holes to win. Ist place wins 1/2 of a hamburger. Prices have gone up - its $6.00 now. Here's Ron's winning shot. The other week Darrell and I came 1st.

Souplantation
We love this restaurant with 55 feet of fresh salads.
Their claim to fame is the food is from the farm to your plate in 24 hours.
Once you walk through the doors with spoons as the openers, this salad bar is massive. There is also a soup bar with 8 different ones, pasta, potato and dessert sections. This is $6.99 for Seniors at lunch.
