Crossing the Border

We went to Chris and Julie's Thurs, Paul joined us, we brought dinner and gave them everything else from our fridge and freezer. Ron heard a warning on the news about tainted meat from Alberta so when I looked on the website, it said no meat, eggs, dairy or poultry. Nothing else left. When we crossed the border the guy asked if we had any firewood and that was all.
We did get organized and left B.C. Friday to park in front of Chuck and Barb's in Blaine. They brought us back for pool at the Legion.

Saturday the whole gang went to Celine and Larry's on Lummi Island where we went for the yearly Crab Feast.

Delicious food and beautiful surroundings.
.
It was a wonderful day and evening

50 Years since St. Paul's School of Nursing Graduation

We had the most successful and fun time with 40 of our classmates celebrating our Grad 50 years ago. So many stories, memories and hilarious laughter. We are such fortunate women to have shared our growing up together during those 3 years. The 5th floor gang sang Hazel Hull;s Anatomy for us.
Here's the official word.

Leaving Friday?

Have lots of catching up to do about Marika's baby shower, trip to Victoria and much more but it will have to wait. Here's our last dinner in the campground with neighbours. I'm off to Vancouver in an hour with Penny M for the 50th reunion of our graduating from St. Paul's Nursing School. This is going to be fun.

Home to Company

Ron picked me up in White Rock and then neighbours arrived to visit. We had a couple pull in next door and they joined us. They have spent 5 weeks in the U.S. and Canada and return home to Australia tomorrow.

Last Swim of the Season

After school today we met the cousins at Soames Beach.

Trey was jumping over the waves as they came in.
Brave Suzanne and Caroline went in.

The dog was thrilled digging a hole.

And Omi basked in the sunshine. Too conditioned to California swimming pools to be so foolish as to swim in the cold ocean. Chicken.

I enjoyed a lovely trip to Gibsons today. Here's the view leaving Horseshoe Bay.
The kids played up in the playhouse.

We're having the nicest weather, lovely sunshine. The living plant wall at the Surrey Library on 18th is looking really nice.
I saw a pretty flower I've never seen before.

Interesting Calgary.

We really enjoyed out time with family, the wedding and the city as well. There is art sculptures on the streets.

And a very 'British' chair in the Bay.
The Hudson Bay Company was incorporated in 1670 as a fur trading company in Canada. This Bay building must have been the talk of the town when the 6 storey structure went up in the midst of 2 storey buildings, now dwarfed by its new neighbours. I loved the arches, black and white checkered marble floors and play of the light through the marble pillars.

The company was incorporated by English royal charter in 1670 as The Governor and Company of Adventurers of England trading into Hudson's Bay and functioned as the de facto government in parts of North America before European states and later the United States laid claim to those territories. It was at one time the largest landowner in the world, with Rupert's Land having 15% of North American acreage. From its long-time headquarters at York Factory on Hudson Bay, the company controlled the fur trade throughout much of British-controlled North America for several centuries. Undertaking early exploration, its traders and trappers forged early relationships with many groups of First Nations/Native Americans. Its network of trading posts formed the nucleus for later official authority in many areas of Western Canada and the United States. In the late 19th century, its vast territory became the largest component in the newly formed Dominion of Canada, in which the company was the largest private landowner. With the decline of the fur trade, the company evolved into a mercantile business selling vital goods to settlers in the Canadian West.

Time to go Home

Last breakfast, then time to load up.
We left Calgary and the prairies behind.
When we got to the airport, we were told our plane was delayed, then it was cancelled altogether.  Oh well, had a beverage and got on the 4:00 flight. We flew over the Fraser River coming into Vancouver with downtown and English Bay in the distance. Very pretty sight.

Vanessa and Mike's Wedding

We all breakfasted together and then it was time to get the hair done. The wedding, vows, venue and gathering were wonderful. We had pictures taken in the gardens at the Lougheed House, a local National Historic Site. The Germuth family was here as well, a tradition that started 54 years ago when the Bors girls were in their wedding party.

Everybody  danced, even babes in arms. We had a wonderful time.
