Josh's Grad
We seem to have been very busy with many things. I'm helping 3 fellow grads organized our 50th year reunion from St. Paul's Hospital School of Nursing for Sept., we had the gang over for Bid Euchre and dinner, planted a little garden in containers, enjoyed dinner at Kathy and Bill's, keep exercising with swimming and walking and lots of neighbours to visit. Thur. we went to Josh's Grad ceremony. There were over 350 kids plus all the awards and speeches, but it went very well. I can't believe our first grandchild has graduated.

2 Good Books
I've just finished reading this book and it is excellent. I can't wait to see the movie, although I can't imagine how they will be able to get all the subtle inferences across, that you read about. Three ordinary women take one extraordinary step, they come together for a clandestine project
that will put them all at risk. And why? Because they are suffocating
within the lines that define their town and their times. A young white woman in 1962 in Mississippi, writes the story of the' 'help'.
I read 'The Book of Negroes' by Lawrence Hill previously which was a fictional narrative about the slave population in the 1880's, based on a fascinating but little known historical document called the Book of Negroes. Here is a quote from Aminata, the storyteller. She evolves from a stolen village child in Africa to the conscience of abolition in America.

This book was published in Australia, America and New Zealand under the title: Someone knows my name.

An Excerpt
Let me begin with a caveat to any and all who find these pages. Do not trust large bodies of water, and do not cross them. If you, Dear Reader, have an African hue and find yourself led toward water with vanishing shores, seize your freedom by any means necessary. And cultivate distrust of the colour pink. Pink is taken as the colour of innocence, the colour of childhood, but as it spills across the water in the light of the dying sun, do not fall into its pretty path. There, right underneath, lies a bottomless graveyard of children, mothers and men. I shudder to imagine all the Africans rocking in the deep. Every time I have sailed the seas, I have had the sense of gliding over the unburied. Some people call the sunset a creation of extraordinary beauty, and proof of God's existence. But what benevolent force would bewitch the human spirit by choosing pink to light the path of a slave vessel? This book was published in Australia, America and New Zealand under the title: Someone knows my name.

Prawn Dinner
Malcolm did prawns, Kathy and I did rice and salad. Delicious and such a great way to visit. They all used to belong to the same sailing club as my cousins and now we're neighbours. I must admit, we're hoping for some warmer weather.

Church Bazaars
We stopped at 2 church plant sales and Bazaars. One had a 'Bouncy Castle' Trey and Lexi just loved.
We played on the beach. The kids buried Liam in the sand, threw frisbies for a dog, watched a seaplane take off and had a blast.

Good Eats
After the kids were in bed, we enjoyed cheese and crackers and a glass of wine.
We decided on Suzanne's famous Lamb Braise for dinner and it was delicious.
Another treat was a Chicken Satay which you know was delicious also. In Japan they had OL's (Office Lady) that made tea and treats for you at work. Here I'm the HL (house lady) taking care of dishes and kitchen and Suzanne is the Gourmet cook. Works for me.

Beach Time at Gibsons
James was on a Fire Fighting Training weekend so Suz and I enjoyed a weekend with the kids and friends. The bus has everyone on it, including dogs.
We went to 3 different beaches and enjoyed them all. The wind made it a bit cool but the kids didn't mind.

Peace Arch Hospital Auxillary Fashion Show
I went to this Fashion Show at Hazelmere put on by the Superfluity Shop with all the clothes from the Shop. It was delightful and Joni and my old neighbour Betty were modeling. I enjoyed the women's company so much, I rejoined our old group, Aquarius that I belonged to in the 70's. One of their ongoing things is collecting Pennies for Peace Arch. The Auxiliary generated over $52,000 in March alone through all their various activities.
